Rotary Club Pune Deccan Gymkhana initiated a project to empower and support local communities by donating sewing machines to underprivileged individuals and groups in and around Pune. The primary objective of this project was to promote economic self-sufficiency, skill development, and entrepreneurship opportunities among marginalized communities. Three individuals (females) and one organization, which helps widowed / divorced young women from economically weaker sections to find livelihood, were the beneficiaries of this project. On 26th October 2023
we organized a special event where we handed over four sewing machines to the selected beneficiaries. The event was attended by DG Rtn. Manjoo Phadke and Rotarians from our club.
We plan to monitor the progress of the beneficiaries and offer ongoing support, as needed, to ensure the long-term success of their sewing businesses. We also donated 15 mtrs. of cloth to each beneficiary for stitching carry bags. These bags will be used by our club to promote plastic free shopping. The project was done in collaboration with Rotary Club of Bibwewadi.
