Twenty five glorious years and going strong ….
Inter District Ekankika ( One act play) competition is one of the signature project of RCPShivajinagar. The competition celebrated Silver Jubilee this year. The competition usually spans over a week . Celebrities of reputation are invited as Chief Guest for the prize distribution. Some of the celebrities who have graced the occasion are Dilip Prabhavalkar, Shriram Lagu, Vandana Gupte .
The competition was started in the year 2000 to provide platform to Rotarians and their families to showcase their talent in acting and onstage and backstage skills. Right from the beginning, the competition got excellent response. Fifteen to twenty clubs have been consistently participating in this competition. Many hidden talents among Rotarians have surfaced through the medium of this competition. Direction, Acting , lights arrangement, Music ,Stage Management to name a few.
Over the years the competition has become a great tool of assimilation among members of participating clubs. Their journey in the participation in the competition starts from selection of the script and ends after prize distribution with the pledge to participate in the next year competition! Ekankikas presented cover wide subjects including social problems, current topics and pure entertainment too.
In the current year the competition was held from 14th Oct. to 18th Oct. 2024 in the evenings at Bharat Natya Mandir.14 clubs participated in the competition. ‘Rangeet Savli' by Phoenix bagged the first prize. This year annet’s participation was commendable.
From the year 2024-25 competition is named after Ann late Swati Kshirsagar . Late Swati was a very dynamic person who had talents in writing and music. She had special liking for dramas and Ekantika’s . She left for heavenly abode in 2019. In the remembrance of her passion for drama, the Ekankika is named after her.
This being 25th Year, the prize distribution ceremony was held on a grand scale on 20th Oct. evening. Veteran Actor Mohan Joshi, DGE Santosh Marathe and renowned author Mangalatai Godbole were chief Guest and Guests of Honor respectively.
DG Rtn.Shital Shah had sent his best wishes for the competition.President Rtn.Dr.Bharati Dole expressed gratitude towards the clubs for their consistent participation. She also threw light on the efforts and hard work put in by RCPS members in organising the competition.
In the year 2000 when the competition was started, Convenor PP Rtn.Achyut Gokhale was the President of RCPS. He summarised the journey of the Ekankika competition over the last twenty-five years. Co Convener PP Rtn.Shirish Kshirsagar thanked the chief guest , guests of honour and judges of the competition for gracing the occasion. All the guests congratulated and appreciated RCPS efforts in organising this competition consistently for last 25 years. Mangalatai Godbole released the souvenir ‘Raupymudra’. Raupymudra encompasses memories of the competition by the members of RCPS and participating clubs of the last 25 years.
The program was very well organised and enjoyed by the audience.
