A Step Towards continuous improvement of a Cleaner and Greener Environment – Gonvadi Village of Mulshi Taluka, Pune District, Maharashtra, India

A sustainable, innovative & participative initiative of ROTARY CLUB OF POONA CENTRAL – Garbage Van (Ghanta Gadi as is called in Maharashtra)

The Garbage Van (Ghanta Gadi) was started about a 7 years back on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd Oct.2017. Since than this van has been running continuously without any disruption. The Garbage Van is being refurbished every year at a cost of more than Rs.55000/-  by RCPC’ s Past President Rtn. Madhusudan Rathi through his Charitable Trust, Madhusudan Rathi Charity Trust

The wet and dry garbage from residences of Gonvadi village, Mulshi is collected free of cost every morning and properly transported to the centralised Garbage depot located in the village.

This ‘Ghanta Gadi’ is not only helping in keeping the village clean and beautiful but also helping to keep the reservoir clean and without any contamination, thus resulting in minimising the disease and public health risks.

In order to make this initiative sustainable and participative, 14 restaurant & hotel owners in Mulshi area are charged for this service and the money collected is spent on drivers, helpers, and Diesel and maintenance repairs.

The donation of a garbage van represents a impactful contribution to environmental cleanliness and public health. This initiative also has significant social impact on the society.
