The Rotary Club of Pune Baner, in collaboration with the Indian Institute Of Education & Business Management and Indus Champs School, orchestrated a special walkathon titled ‘Purplethon’ at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi. The event, aimed at raising awareness about Epilepsy Surgery, saw enthusiastic participation from over 350 individuals, with a notable presence of youth.
The walkathon covered a distance of five kilometers within the stadium campus, offering participants drinking water, refreshments and first aid. Doctors were strategically stationed along the route to address any emergency situations. The walkathon, flagged off by Rotarian Manjoo Phadke, District Governor of Rotary International District 3131, was followed by a lively Zumba demonstration led by Assistant Governor (zone 6) of Rotary International District 3131 and Zumba trainer Rtn. Smeeta Shitole.
The Rotary Club of Pune Baner, known for its initiatives in conducting Epilepsy surgeries in collaboration with Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, had Dr. Nilesh Kurwale, head of the Epilepsy center at the hospital, deliver an informative speech on epilepsy at the event. Dr. Kurwale emphasized that epilepsy, a treatable disorder, can be completely cured or controlled with proper treatment, especially through surgery for complex or drug-resistant cases.
Noteworthy is the Club's contribution to performing 15 successful surgeries for underprivileged patients from July 1, 2023, till date, funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Rtn. Jigneshh Karria, President of the Rotary Club of Pune Baner, acknowledged the club's significant role in this regard during the closing ceremony.
The event witnessed active participation from various members and leaders including Rtn. Captain Pradeep Nadkar, Rtn. Priiya Karria, Rtn. Sapna Agrawal and several others, along with the enthusiastic involvement of Rotaract Club President Rtr. Pranav Bhegade and faculty members from Indus Champs School and IIEBM.
The ‘Purplethon’ Epilepsy Awareness Walk, with its strong youth participation and impactful initiatives, stood as a testament to the Rotary Club of Pune Baner’s commitment to community health and awareness.
