Empowering Rural Women: Donation of Portable iBreast Exam Scanner to Swa Sukhlalji Khabiya Jain Dharmarth Hospital Back

The Rotary Club of Poona West, in synergy with the Rotary Club of Rajgurunagar, has made a significant contribution to women's health by donating a portable iBreast Exam Scanner device costing INR 7 lakhs to the Swa Sukhlalji Khabiya Jain Dharmarth Hospital in Rajgurunagar, Tal-Khed, Dist Pune.

Recognizing the genuine need for early breast cancer detection and the importance of accessible screening in rural areas, this device will aid in conducting preventive breast cancer tests at a very nominal cost, greatly benefiting women in the Khed Taluka. The device was identified by RC Poona West during a presentation by Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar at District Governor Manjoo's District Conference.

The iBreast Exam Scanner is designed to identify non-palpable breast lumps, enabling the early detection of breast cancer among women. This radiation-free test provides instant reports, allowing a limited number of suspected cases to be referred for mammography. The portable and handy nature of this machine allows it to be taken in a van to conduct camps for identifying potential breast cancer cases among women.

The hospital plans to carry out regular camps across different villages in Khed Taluka, providing preventive measures that will benefit the underprivileged and rural women population. Given the device's lifespan, it has the potential to benefit up to 100,000 women.

The device was officially handed over by DGN Santosh Marathe in the presence of President Vipin Ghate, President Dutta Ruke, IPP Jayashree Padwal, trustees, doctors of the hospital, and a large number of Rotarians. DG Manjoo Phadke, Rtn Charu Shrotri and Rtn Prakash Joglekar provided invaluable support for the successful handover of this project.
