Project for Environmental Conservation
The Rotary Club of Pen initiated a beautiful project this year for environmental conservation. Recently, the immersion of household Ganesha idols on the fifth day of Ganesh Chaturthi was completed in Pen city. The immersions took place in both natural and artificial ponds, with a devotional atmosphere. However, to prevent water pollution, Rotary Club of Pen, Rotary Club of Ambernath North, and Inner Wheel Club of Pen have implemented a commendable initiative. Since POP (Plaster of Paris) Ganesha idols do not dissolve quickly in water, the Rotary Club of Pen created special "Amrit Jal" ponds. Environmentalist Rajesh Bhavsar from the Rotary Club of Ambernath has been conducting this initiative in Ambernath. With his collaboration, the Rotary Club of Pen and the Inner Wheel Club of Pen set up unique Amrit Jal ponds to dissolve the POP Ganesha idols.
The citizens and the Pen Municipal Council responded positively to this initiative. The Chief Officer of the Pen Municipal Council, Mr. Gajanan Patil, appreciated the project and assured that the council would continue to support the Rotary Club of Pen to ensure its success in the future.
After the idols dissolved, the byproducts were ammonium sulfate and calcium, both of which are excellent fertilizers for plants.
